5 Different Cosmetic Dentistry Treatments Available At Meadowbank Dental

When you want to improve your natural smile, there are a plethora of options available to you. Cosmetic dentistry is becoming increasingly popular, and while the following treatments aren’t appropriate for anyone, your dentist can help you to discern which method is best for enhancing your smile.

  1. Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening can be done either in-chair or using a take-home kit. Teeth whitening is useful when food, coffee, alcohol and tobacco have stained your teeth and caused them to yellow in colour. Teeth whitening helps restore teeth to a brighter shade of white.

In-chair bleaching works by applying a special peroxide solution to the teeth and then activating the primary compound using a special UV light. Take home kits work using a similar method, but the formula is diluted and therefore must be applied for a longer period of time before the whitening effect takes hold.

  1. Cosmetic Dental Veneers

When your teeth are misshapen or crooked, they can be fixed with the addition of cosmetic dental veneers. Veneers are a thin shell made out of porcelain or composite material. They are custom made for each patient and are fastened to the front of the patient’s teeth using dental cement. A veneer can be used to treat chipped teeth, crooked teeth, yellowing teeth or to fix teeth with holes in them.

  1. Cosmetic Dental Implants

Some patients want to take their oral care a step beyond veneers, and instead have teeth pulled out and replaced with dental implants. Dental implants are also used when teeth have fallen out due to natural causes, like tooth decay and accidental injuries. A dental implant acts as a tooth root and is made up of a metal socket. Dental crowns, dental bridges and dentures can all be fastened to the socket to enhance the smile and each gives the appearance of natural looking teeth.

  1. Cosmetic Teeth Bonding

This procedure is most common when a tooth or teeth have been chipped due to mishap. For example, if a child fell down onto concrete and chipped their tooth, the dentist at Meadowbank Dental would use a cosmetic teeth bonding procedure to attach a piece of ceramic, porcelain or other composite material to the gap. This gives the appearance of natural teeth and can be used to restore damaged smiles.

  1. Cosmetic Orthodontic Treatment

Since the conception of Invisalign, cosmetic orthodontic treatment has become more commonplace than ever before. Invisalign retainers and traditional metal braces are used to adjust teeth permanently when they become crooked or misshapen. Treatment can last from two to eight years and requires regular check-ups at the dentist to ensure the oral appliances are working as they are supposed to.
