Dental Fillings in Meadowbank & Ryde, West Ryde

Dental fillings are one of the most common dental procedures. When you have a dental cavity close to the root, it can cause a lot of pain. We recommend scheduling an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible. Delaying medical attention can cause further damage to your teeth, and minimise our ability to save the tooth.

What to Expect

If the damage to your tooth is minor, it may qualify for a filling. Dr Park (Dentist) will start by numbing the tooth and the area around it. The decay in the tooth is cleaned out and the filling is applied. We offer amalgam-free fillings, which are free of any harmful substances. A range of different composite materials (white tooth colour filling materials) are chemically bonded to the tooth to restore its function and aesthetics.

Composite fillings generally last 5-7 years. Routine dental visits are important to make sure there’s no decay underneath existing fillings. When decay is left untreated, it may progress deeper into the tooth and cause pain that can lead to abscess. Early detection of decay and treatment may prevent possible invasive or costly dental treatments later on.

Cause and Prevention

The most common reason for tooth damage is poor oral hygiene. Not brushing and flossing daily can leave food residue on your teeth. The residue lingers until it starts to eat away at the tooth. Sugar is one example of a food that promotes cavities. They start out small, and continue to grow if oral hygiene doesn’t improve. Broken, chipped, or cracked teeth are also candidates for a filling.

Preventative care twice a year is recommended for all. If you notice a crack or hole beginning to form in your tooth, it’s time to visit your dentist. Caught in its early stages, the tooth and corresponding nerves may be saved. The longer you wait, the bigger the problem can become.
